| Tips for a Successful Wedding! 1 Every successful wedding takes a lot of planning. Get a note book or wedding planner. Write everything down. Make sure you get phone numbers and contact names for the people that you will be dealing with or communicated. Keep a calendar to help with your time line and to make appointments. Keep your appointments and don't be late to your appointment every bride wants her time be considerate if a bride is waiting. Some Planners offer a free one hour initial consultation and will charge by the hour after the time is up and this will get expensive. 2 The more time you have to plan the more options you have for everything. If you are planning a wedding in popular months, start planning early to avoid being disappointed. Good Planners, photographers, musicians and caterers go fast. 3 When planning the date consider the following: A The weather, you know in most areas August will have afternoon showers. Take this into consideration when you plan to have an outdoor wedding. The same goes for extreme heat and humidity. B Do most of the important people in your wedding have scheduled commitments for the day that they cannot change; is it close to another family member's important occasion? C Make sure there are no other large events going on in the location as this may interfere with accommodations, availability and traffic patterns getting to and from the ceremony or reception. D Have you chosen a holiday wedding that may make air travel, or accommodations problematic as far as having people in town on time? Remember Holidays and Large Events will raise the prices as this is a time High in Demand. 4 Get "Signed" Contracts by "All" involved with your Wedding Planner, vendors, musicians, floral designer, caterers and bakery - have everything in writing this is to protect us as Wedding Planners and you. Contracts are Legal Binding Agreements. 5 Photography - make sure you specify the pictures that you want taken at your wedding before the date arrives. Family and friends will start offering suggestions at the wedding, this is fine as long as the pictures are what YOU want taken remember You are paying for them and you may be charge additional fees for more pictures that was not originally discussed. Ask family members to have family portraits taken for another time or set up with the Photographer to take the pictures once YOUR pictures are completed or you will end up paying for everyone else's pictures and not have enough of your special day. 6 When in doubt, or if you get emotional, keep to a traditional service where you can answer "I do" and repeat after the minister unless you have memorized your vows that you have written. 7 They may be cute and this may sound cruel but don't let children in the wedding distract you from your special day. Make sure they are mature enough to handle this responsibility. Children under 5 or 6 have no place in a ceremony unless they are extremely mature and well behaved. I had a flower girl walk down the aisle and turn around and run out the door and we had to stop the wedding, another time a ring bearer ran to his mother in the pew and dropped the rings. 8 Understand that your wedding in the joining of two "entire" families. If you are different in religion, background or culture, celebrate each other side's uniqueness and emphasize the things in common- love for the bride and groom. 9 Make sure there is a plan in place for emergencies the day of the wedding. Bring extra make-up, pantyhose, safety pins, toothbrush, hair pins, and garment tape this will save time and tears. 10 Honeymoon - if possible wait a day before you head out. The past few months you have been rushing around this is a good time to say goodbye to out of town friends and family. You will enjoy the honeymoon so much better if you are rested. Practice patience when planning your wedding and of course the wedding day itself. Emotions run high and everything seems to be a huge weight on your shoulders that will soon be lifted. You do not want to go down the aisle with hard feelings toward your mother or the Groom! I have planned over 5000 weddings and I can see I have seen just about everything. The one thing I can say if you plan to have a drink before your wedding make sure you are in control, I had to find a groom and that was not a fun task when I am the wedding planner. |
